Milestone Moments

07Feb

Are you ready for the next milestone moment?  Parents are get excited to see their child reach the next milestone in development.  Children want to fly through their milestones….elementary school, middle school, high school, driver’s license, graduation, college etc.

We all have milestone moments in life.  Milestone moments can be happy, sad, or a mixture of both.  Many men and women in Tampa, FL take a look at themselves as these milestone moments approach and wish their skin was brighter or eyes not so tired.  Maybe your children have left the nest, but the baby belly is still there.

Maybe your milestone moment is your son is getting married, daughter graduating, or a class reunion is coming up.  You could be starting a new career, having a decade birthday, or planning the vacation of a lifetime.

Aguiar Plastic Surgery  and Essentials Med Spa helps many patients, in Tampa Bay, who are looking for a little “pick me up” prior to a milestone moment.  Whether your milestone moment is coming up quickly or in a year, we can help you develop a plan to help you LOOK and FEEL your best!

Planning is important!!!  We all understand that we can accomplish more of our goal when we have more time to achieve it.  A personal transformation doesn’t happen in a one hour “make-over” TV show.  For most men and women, their transformation takes place many months before their milestone moment.

I understand that and “ideal timeline” is not feasible for everyone but I wanted to provide you with some knowledge of appropriate planning.  If you don’t have this much time, don’t give up.  Sometimes, it’s the small changes that can give us that extra confidence boost.

Ideal Timeline For Your Milestone Moment

6 months to 1 year Before Milestone Moment

  • Stop Smoking: If you smoke cigarettes…STOP!!  Everyone knows that smoking is unhealthy and causes cancer.  However, most people don’t realize that smoking makes them a “non-candidate” for cosmetic surgery.
  • Weight:  No one wants to hear that they need to lose weight, or even that their weight matters in cosmetic surgery.  That fact is that being overweight impedes the surgeon from giving patients their best result.  Patients with morbid obesity are at extremely high risk for complications from any surgery and are not candidates for cosmetic surgery.

If you are overweight or smoking or both, don’t despair.   There are many medical and non-medical resources that can help you stop smoking and/or lose weight.  Ask your primary physician or Dr. Aguiar for these resources.

  • Exercise: If you don’t currently exercise, start with a physical with your primary physician.  If he/she determines you are healthy enough for exercise, find something you love to do and go for it!!  Exercise doesn’t have to be running miles and miles or in the gym every day.  Take up tennis, bike riding, hiking, skiing, or my favorite, horseback riding.
  • Think about your skin:  Skin is the largest organ of the body.  Our skin protects our bones, muscles, fat, and organs.  Skin helps to keep us warm and to cool our body.  If you feel your skin doesn’t look young, bright, strong, and healthy, don’t just treat the skin on the face.  Our neck, chest, and hands can give away our “real” age even if our face looks youthful.
  • Laser Hair Removal:  Most of us don’t like to shave, especially if you are on the vacation of your dreams.  Start laser hair removal as early as possible.  Most patients require 6 treatments spaced 6 to 8 weeks apart.
  • Consult with Dr. Aguiar:  If your plan to LOOK and FEEL your best includes surgery, you will want to have surgery with as much recovery time as possible.  Dr. Aguiar’s schedule is always the busiest when people normally have time off from work.  If you have a specific date in mind, scheduling in advance is highly recommended; especially around a holiday.
  • Finances:  Plastic Surgery and Med Spa Services can be expensive, especially if you want multiple surgeries and services.  Planning ahead will allow you to save and apply for financing.  Aguiar Plastic Surgery offers financing through CareCredit and Advance Care

4 Months Before Milestone Moment

  • Skin Care:  If you don’t wear sunscreen religiously every day, this is the time to start.  You will be surprised how much better your skin can look after a few months of protection from the sun.  Not sure which sunscreen is the best for you?  The great medical estheticians at Essentials Med Spa can suggest one for you.

2-3 Months Before Milestone Moment

  • Injectables:  The fabulous dermal fillers such as Restylane®, Perlane®, and Juvéderm®can take years off your look in about an hour.  Dermal fillers work well for moderate to severe wrinkles and folds in the skin.  Dermal fillers also can replace volume in the face.  Sculptra® Aesthetic works best for volume loss in the cheeks.  Botox®, and Dysport®, are products than can help with mild to severe wrinkles in the skin such as the “11’s” between the eyes, crow’s feet, and forehead wrinkles.

Scheduling injectables 2-3 months before the milestone will allow any swelling or bruising to dissipate.
