Star Wars Over Plastic Surgery

07Oct

Sofia Vergara, hot Latin bombshell on hit TV Show, Modern Family, was recently interviewed my Esquire Magazine.  During her interview, Vergara talked about plastic surgery.  While Vergara isn’t against minor tweeks, she has sworn off major overhauls saying,  “L. A. is crazy. The women all look the same now. That thing with the cheeks. Like Madonna. Who do they think they’re fooling? It doesn’t make them look young. You end up looking like a freak.”

While I agree that some of the “stars” go overboard, many of the pictures that are published are just bad photos.  We have all had those photos taken when we think, “who is that? or I look like that?”  The paparazzi can be a stars best friend or their worst emeny.

As far as Vergara goes, let’s ask her in twenty years if her stand on plastic surgery is the same.  I bet not.  As we age, our skin looses elasticity and volume is lost in the face.  As fat harvesting and grafting becomes more common place, the traditional facelift will be a thing of the past.  Instead of removing fat that has drooped or shifted, a board certified plastic surgeon can harvest fat from other parts of the body and graft in the face.  Fat grafting restores the youthful volume desired.

Some people will still benefit from removing excess skin and repositioning the muscles of the face. But the pulled, tight, gaunt look is no longer desired.

Fat harvesting and grafting is still not common in the plastic surgery world.  There is still a lot of research and training to be done.  Over the next decade the technique will be refined.

As with any plastic surgery, the procedures should only be performed by a surgeon that is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
